The music and sounds on this album are 100% improvised live in the moment.
Between 2009 and 2011 before i officially started writing and recording music as Carnivorrrr i would perform sets under the same name that were an improvised cacophony of noise, drone and distortion with a few beats and a vague semblance of musicality thrown in. It was very influenced by acts i had seen at ATP Festivals in years prior that would loop/sample obscure instruments or electronics to create a wall of absorbing sound. It was fun to do and came off abrasive, chaotic and ridiculous in equal measure but after a while it felt aimless.
So in 2012 i bought a new pedal the Zoom G3 , it has a 40 second loop function and lots of built in guitar amp emulators that you can customise. I started to use an acoustic guitar so i could loop percussive sounds and layer brighter and more low end textures then with more time on the loop function i could beatbox something more measured. I thought it was the right time to start writing music under this guise and turn the chaotic , abrasive and ridiculous in to pieces that would resemble music. The first Carnivorrrr song i wrote was Peering into that Forest
carnivorrrr.bandcamp.com/track/peering-into-that-forest . It was born out of improvisation.
Throughout the next 10 years i experimented with the ideas and concepts of how i wanted my songs and releases to be while using the same set up an acoustic guitar , effects pedal and mic , sometimes throwing in a different instrument. Some songs would take months to write and others would take 10 minutes. One thing would be in common through all the stylistic changes i would put my music through, the majority of my material was born out of improvisation.
So by the time it came to late 2022 i had the thought to push the button and start improvising without a prior thought of where the music would go other than mediate it in the moment. I always wanted to make a fully improvised sort of live album and i think after 10 years of making the sort of music i do, it was a good time to try it.. Initially i thought this would be my version of a mixtape as while ive always been influenced by many genres of music i never wanted to be bound by a singular form. I think stylistically you can see this in the way it flows but as i started to go through the 3-4 hours of music i recorded and compile everything i wanted to keep, a concept was forming.
Originally i wanted to keep this project to 40 minutes but as i listened over to the pieces i wanted to keep, I could see them forming an imaginary soundtrack creating a film in my head. What i could see was some sort of sea voyage with a sci-fi, horror and western aesthetic taking in other worldly characters and scenery book-ended with the first and last track. So now the mixtape idea has become an 80 minute double album about the length of a film

If you take the time to listen to this project first of all thank you ! if you see an imaginary film of your own to fit with the music thats cool ! if you just view it as a mixtape of instrumental tracks thats cool too , just view it how you like. The song titles are a representation of what i see from the music so dont let it influence your thoughts too much if you dont want them too . Other than that you could use this album for background or study music or whatever you like .
Remember to improvise !
